Watermelon-Kale Detox Green Smoothie Recipe

IMGP1942Two cleansing foods that are perfect for a summer detox is sweet watermelon and chlorophyll-rich kale. Blended with orange (another super cleansing fruit), this green smoothie is as delicious as it is invigorating.

Watermelon contains the amino acids citrulline and arginine, which can help maintain arteries, blood flow and overall cardiovascular function.

A sulfur-containing phytonutrient in kale called sulforaphane is believed to have powerful anti-cancer, anti-diabetic and anti-microbial properties and is released when the leaves are chopped or chewed (or blended in a green smoothie!) Kale is also great for cleansing and detoxing.

Kale Watermelon Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 2 cups watermelon, chopped
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 3 cups kale, chopped
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 8 ounces of filtered water

Start by adding the liquid to your blender (I use a Vitamix), followed by the soft fruit. Add the greens to your blender last. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.

Serving Size: One. (This recipe makes a large, 32-ounce smoothie. It is a meal-replacement smoothie and not a snack. I recommend drinking half right away and the other half about 30 minutes later. If it is too much for you, store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.)
