Do you feel like you need a cleansing green smoothie? Fresh, organic strawberries and water-rich grapefruit make an excellent blend to help prepare you for beach weather!

Grapefruit is one of the best cleansing fruits. (If you don’t like grapefruit, simply substitute it for a large orange.) Not only does it promote clear skin, it is among the most water rich fruits which supports optimum function of your body’s primary detox organs: kidneys and liver. The fiber supports colon function.
While I used fresh baby spinach in this recipe, you can use one of the most epic “detox” greens out there – dandelion. Dandelion is bitter, so if you choose to use it, make this recipe with orange instead of grapefruit.
While this recipe isn’t exactly “sweet”, I don’t recommend putting concentrated sugars into your smoothies such as honey, agave, or dried dates. I used a banana to sweeten it up. It will be plenty sweet if you use an orange instead of a grapefruit.
Strawberry-Grapefruit Detox Smoothie Recipe
- 2 ounces of water, if needed
- 1 grapefruit, peeled and deseeded
- 10 medium strawberries
- 1 banana, peeled
- 2 cups baby spinach
Start by adding the liquid to your blender (see my blender recommendations), followed by the soft fruit. Add the greens to your blender last. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.
Caution: Grapefruits contain compounds that interfere with certain medications such as statin drugs like Lipitor and Zocor. If you are on any medications, please consult with your doctor or pharmacist before consuming grapefruit.
