Oh yes, this recipe contains broccoli! But before you make your gag face, let me tell you that a juicy, sweet tangerine really sweetens this juice up nicely.
This recipe is full of minerals. Broccoli is high in calcium, which helps build strong bones and may help prevent osteoporosis. It’s also high in potassium, which helps lower blood pressure. Celery also helps lower blood pressure.
You can use a big, sweet orange if you don’t have access to a large tangerine. Oranges are higher in vitamin C, but they’re not as sweet and flavorful. A fantastic addition to this recipe is a little fresh ginger!
This recipe makes about 24 ounces or 1 serving of whole juice. We call it a “whole juice” because it is made in a blender, which makes a juice that includes the fiber (pulp) without being thick like a smoothie.
Broccoli-Celery Whole Juice Recipe
- 8 medium broccoli florets, chopped
- 4 medium stalks of celery, chopped
- 1 large tangerine (or two small), peeled and deseeded
- 8 to 10 ounces of filtered water
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (optional)
Start by adding the liquid to your blender (I use a Vitamix), followed by the soft fruit. Add the broccoli to your blender last. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until there are no more chunks.
Calcium: 12% RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance)
Vitamin A (as beta-carotene): 65% RDA
Vitamin C: 109% RDA
This smoothie is also a rich source of folate, vitamins B1 – B6, vitamin K, copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium and phosphorus.
