apricot
Apricots are a sweet and tart fruit that is grown in California and Washington in America. They are often mistaken for peaches because of their similar look, but they are smaller and the skin of the apricot is smoother than that of the peach.

Apricots often have a hard time growing in North America due to our weather fluctuations, but thrive in their native home of Armenia and China.

How To Select Apricots

Select apricots that have a rich orange color. They should be slightly soft. Avoid pale yellow fruits. Apricots taste better when they have been ripened on the tree. Apricots are a summer fruit and can be found in supermarkets from May until August.

The Environmental Working Group does not list apricots on their list of 47 fruits and vegetables studied for pesticide residue. Organic apricots are a better choice to reduce exposure if possible.
