Green Smoothie Inspiration: Frank Cernada – Miami, FL USA

“I started drinking green smoothies on a regular basis three months ago [July 2012]. What I like about green smoothies is that since I am not overweight, they have helped me to maintain a healthy weight.

I was told my tinnitus was a condition that I would have to experience for life. I was prescribed Prednizone which is a very dangerous drug. I refused to take it and after three months on a raw food diet, with an ample supply of green smoothies and vegetable juices, my tinnitus is 98% gone.

I have experienced one of the most important milestones in my diet. After being a vegetarian for 25 years, I was consuming the wrong kind of foods. My diet consisted of a lot of whole wheat bread, cheese pizzas and pasta. I disliked greens and fruits aside form a few bananas and one apple daily. I was overweight and my face had a puffy look.

Green smoothies allow me to consume a high amount of fruits and greens which I would have found impossible otherwise. In the past three months, I have tried such a variety of fruits and vegetables in my blender which could only be possible with the smoothies I drink every day.

I drink four smoothies per day. I have one blender at home and another one at work. I drink about three quarters of a gallon per day. On a typical day, I will prepare a smoothie with the following ingredients: 2 bananas, 1 kiwi, a piece of pineapple, 4 cups of assorted of greens (I rotate them weekly), 1 teaspoon of both spirulina and bee pollen, two tablespoons of flax seeds, a piece of aloe, blueberries, coconut water, and a tablespoon of organic raw honey. I alternate the fruits as well.

I follow an 85% raw food diet. In addition, I drink vegetable and fruit juices often which I prepare at home with a juicer. I feel that I am getting the nutrients I need and I feel wonderful. The most important aspect is that the smoothies have helped me to keep a healthy weight.

When I am visiting family on vacation, everybody wants to purchase a blender to start making smoothies since they are surprised by the way I look.,

I will drink green smoothies as long as I live. Even if I change my diet in the future and introduce more cooked foods.”
