Juice fasting (also known as juice “feasting”) is a super popular method of detoxification, cleansing and weight loss. However, it’s a method that is missing one of the most important ingredients for cleansing the body – fiber!
There Is No Cleansing Fiber In Juice
Fiber is essential for healthy bowel function. It’s the only healthy method of colon cleansing approved by nature! It’s also the big thing missing from green juices. Without fiber, you’re not properly cleansing.
So how do you get the goodness of a green juice with the necessary fiber for cleansing and healthy bowel function? Green smoothies!
Green smoothies provide a superior method of detoxification because they provide healthy fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and they are whole foods! They nourish you and fill you up between meals.
Support Cleansing With Green Smoothies and Whole Foods Rather Than Liquid Shock Diets
Your body is meant to run on whole foods, not fractionated foods like juices. Juice fasting can cause nutrient imbalances. It is lacking in calories and carbohydrates that you need for energy as well as protein. Frequent and long term juice fasting may disrupt your metabolism and lead to nutrient deficiencies.
A green juice fast might make you feel like you are cleansing, but the feeling is from the removal of foods from your diet that cause sluggish digestion and other problems that detox regimens seek to fix.
When you detox, your body doesn’t need a break from food. It needs a break from some of the foods you eat (excess fat – even raw fats, manufactured foods, junk foods, etc…).
Of course you feel better and experience short term health benefits when you remove excess fat and processed foods from your diet.
However, you’ll get the same results with low fat green smoothies without having to starve yourself (or flush out your colon, for that matter).
Eat To Cleanse, Don’t Starve Yourself Clean
So should you do a green smoothie fast, then? I don’t recommend drinking nothing but green smoothies. You won’t get enough calories and nutrients that way.
