PS...the green smoothies are best with banana, apple, and/or berries which make the drink very tasty!

And based on what I've learned the past few weeks, organic veggies are best, but if you can't get organic, at least do get greens from the grocery store and continue to move forward!
Best wishes!

Tonya, I usually don't remark on these sites but I was struck by your comment, "I have a horrible sweet tooth!" I'm a mostly-vegan switching over to raw foods. I, too, have always had a demanding sweet tooth, but as a diabetic I've been playing with fire for far too long, giving in to every sweet craving I've had for most of my life. (I'm 52.) 10 weeks ago I gave up sugary sweets completely, cold turkey. (As a sugar-addict, I felt that just cutting back on sweets would just drive me crazy and prolong the addiction.) I've been drinking green smoothies since that time, and for the first time in my life I've found that my sweet-addiction are completely gone. I can walk past the the things that have always been impossible to ignore, such as chocolate, donuts, cookies, etc. NOTHING tempts me now. I can't explain this, but I have a feeling the organic green smoothies have everything to do with it. My body is getting real nourishment now, and just doesn't crave junk anymore. I never thought it was possible. Keep searching for whole nutrition and knowledge! Good luck!

Yes and Yes. You can modify your smoothies any way you want. If the smoothie you are making is healthier than the processed foods you would otherwise be eating, than do it. Tonya, Most fruits are sweet enough but I bet if you tried stevia or agave you'd be off sugar for life. They are wonderful.Danielle, If you want to add green tea as your liquid, good for you. try it. A smoothie doesn't have to be designed by a nutritionist to be healthier for you than what you are eating today. Start with what you like and THEN get creative and try healthier alternatives. If your first smoothie was gross and turned you off smoothies for life - that would be a shame. Start with what you like and will eat and then make small changes.

There is no right way or wrong way to make a smoothie; add what you like aned experiment with teas, and aall your other favorites. If extreme rules keep somebody from switching from processed meats or cereals to a healthier smoothie, than those rules are too strict. Its still an improvement even if it contains sugars or non organics. Start with well washed non organic foods and add organics when you can afford them. Same thing with tea - yes - add the benefits to your smoothie instead of water. Its ok to experiment. Danielle, your sweet tooth would be very happy to meet stevia or agave liquid. They are wonderful - you won't even want sugar anymore.

Does adding actual sugar negate the health benefits of a green smoothie? I have a horrible sweet tooth! Also is it even worth making and drinking green smoothies if it isn't organic? Would love to have the answers to these questions. Thank you!

What about adding green tea or herbal tea to smoothies? Is there any reason why you don't add those?
