RaspberryRaspberries are a natural flavor enhancer in green smoothie recipes, and they are particularly delicious blended with bananas, mangoes and other berries.

Raspberries can be red, black, purple and golden, but regardless of color, they are delicious and nutritious. Raspberries are generally tart, but can be slightly sweet as well. They are a versatile fruit, and it is nearly impossible to go to the grocery store without finding foods, drinks or desserts that are infused with raspberries.

Raspberries grow in temperate regions. They are sometimes considered an invasive species, and can take over gardens if not properly attended. Raspberries are harvested in North America in the summer and fall months.

Raspberry Nutrition and Health Benefits

Raspberries are very high in antioxidants and also contain high levels of fiber, manganese and vitamin C. Other nutrients in raspberries include vitamins B1-3, folic acid, magnesium, copper and iron.

Raspberries have anti-inflammatory properties. Studies suggest that eating raspberries may prevent certain cancers and protect against cardiovascular disease, diabetes, allergies, age-related cognitive decline and macular degeneration (age-related vision problems).
