Banana Green SmoothieHere’s a yummy tropical meal-replacement smoothie. It has a sweet banana flavor accented with mango and papaya. There’s just a touch of raw chocolate (cacao) in it, not enough to make it a chocolate smoothie, but you could add more if you want.

I like hiding extra veggies in my meal replacement smoothies, hence the tomato and carrot. Carrots are a good source of beta-carotene.

Creamy Banana Smoothie with Greens Recipe

  • 2 organic bananas, peeled
  • 1 cup papaya, cubed
  • 1 mango, peeled and pitted
  • 1 tablespoon Sunfood cacao *
  • 3 cups Swiss chard (or other leafy green)
  • 1-2 small vine tomatoes (I use Campari tomatoes)
  • 1 small to medium-sized carrot
  • 4 to 6 ounces of filtered water

Add the banana, papaya and water to your blender and hit the “pulse” button a few times until you have a rough blend. Next, add the rest of the ingredients and blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.

* I use and recommend Sunfood brand cacao because it is so high in iron. A once ounce serving has 314% of your daily value of this mineral. No other brand of cacao I have seen comes close to this iron content. Sunfood cacao comes in powder (perfect for smoothies), whole beans and pieces (nibs). You can order Sunfood cacao in our superfoods store.

You can always substitute kale or even dandelion greens to boost the calcium content in this smoothie past the 30% recommended daily allowance.
