Apple-Tangerine Detox Smoothie with Dandelion and Radish Greens

Detox Green SmoothieHere’s a delicious detox green smoothie with both radish greens and dandelion greens. You’re probably raising an eyebrow about my using “radish greens” and “delicious” in the same sentence.

Believe it or not, radish greens are not as bitter as you might think. They don’t taste anything like the radish itself. While I don’t like the sharp taste of the radish bulb, the greens are mild and easily masked in a green smoothie with fruit.

Be sure to thoroughly wash radish greens and use organic greens only in this smoothie.

While dandelion greens are perhaps the bitterest things you can put in a green smoothie, this recipe uses only one cup of them and the citrus and mango hides it perfectly. The nutrients in dandelion greens may help reduce the risk of cancer, multiple sclerosis, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and stroke. Dandelion greens are believed to be a powerful liver cleanser.

The apple and the tangerines sweeten this smoothie. It has a nice creamy texture (thanks to the mango) with just over 15 grams of fiber.

Apple-Tangerine Detox Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 apple, cored
  • 1 mango, peeled and pitted
  • 2 tangerines, peeled and deseeded
  • 1 and 1/2 cup radish greens
  • 1 cup dandelion greens (thoroughly washed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger
  • 8 ounces of filtered water

Start by adding the liquid to your blender (I use a Vitamix), followed by the soft fruit. Add the greens to your blender last. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.

This smoothie is also a rich source of folate, vitamins B1 – B6, vitamin K, vitamin E, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and potassium.

Serving Size: One. (This recipe makes a large, 32-ounce smoothie. It is a meal-replacement smoothie and not a snack. I recommend drinking half right away and the other half about 30 minutes later. If it is too much for you, store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.)
