Apple-Acai Antioxidant Fusion Smoothie Recipe
They say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well, if you blend that apple with some antioxidant-rich acai berries, you’ll have quite the potent doctor repellant.
This delicious apple-acai recipe is what I call a “fusion” smoothie because it blends the crisp, autumn flavors of sweet apple with tropical South American berries. It’s the tastes of two worlds mingling together.
Acai berries are loaded with antioxidants. Davy and I prefer to use frozen acai puree instead of the non-whole foods, highly processed powders and juices that you’ll find for sale in the supplement section. Acai is a food, not a supplement, so capsules, a teaspoon of powder or a cap full of juice isn’t going to do you any good. Use a good 3.5 ounce serving of acai puree in your smoothie and you’ll get the most out of this berry.
I like to make my own almond milk so it doesn’t contain all the preservatives most store bought brands are going to have. It’s a lot easier than you might think to make our own almond milk. Click here to check out my recipe.
Apple-Acai Smoothie Recipe
- 8 ounces almond milk
- 2 apples *, cored
- 1 pouch of frozen acai puree (I use Amafruit brand.)
- 1 large carrot, chopped
Start by adding the liquid to your blender (I use a Vitamix), followed by the soft fruit. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.
* I used golden delicious apples for this recipe, but you can use any sweet apple you would like.
If you want, you can add some mild-flavored greens to this recipe like romaine or green leaf lettuce or fresh baby spinach. Avoid blending with kale or dandelion as the bitter flavors won’t be effectively masked by the apple and acai.

Serving Size: One. (This recipe makes a large, 32-ounce smoothie. It is a meal-replacement smoothie and not a snack. I recommend drinking half right away and the other half about 30 minutes later. If it is too much for you, store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.)
