Aloe Kiwi Green SmoothieI have never eaten aloe before, so when I saw it in my health food store, I thought I’d give it a try. Aloe is a desert succulent plant that is loaded with electrolytes and is known to help improve digestion.

Aloe is bitter so when you add it to a smoothie, you will want to use sweet fruits to help mask the taste. This recipe might be slightly on the bitter side for some of you, but I really like it so I thought I’d share it with you.

Tip: When you peal an aloe leaf, cut the spiky edges off first so that you can grip the leaf without getting cut or poked. Then slice the leaf lengthwise through the gel separating the two sides of the leaf. Using a spoon, scrape the gel from the aloe leaf skin.

Aloe-Kiwi Recipe

- 1 and 1/2 cups cucumber, with peel
- 2 large kiwi, peeled
- 2 cups of fresh baby spinach
- 1/2 cup fresh aloe gel, peeled
- 1 banana, peeled
- 4 ounces of filtered water

Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.

Smoothie Modifications

To cut down on the bitterness of the aloe leaf, try adding another banana or some chunks of fresh pineapple.
