Molybdenum

By Tracy Russell

Molybdenum is an essential trace element that plays an important role in enzyme function and may also help prevent tooth decay.

Molybdenum Food Sources

Molybdenum is not typically a mineral you would get in appreciable amounts from green smoothies. Instead, be sure to include these food sources in your daily diet:

– Green beans
– Sunflower seeds
– Lentils
– Whole grains
– Nuts

Molybdenum Deficiency

Molybdenum deficiency is rare, however increased rates of esophageal cancer has been noted in areas of the world where this mineral is deficient in the soil and therefore lacking in adequate amounts in the foods grown in the soil.

Molybdenum Toxicity

Molybdenum toxicity is not common, however it is possible with supplements and can lead to seizures, hallucinations and psychosis.

The Effects of Cooking On Molybdenum

There is no research that I am aware of that indicates how cooking or processing impacts molybdenum levels in food.
