Green Smoothie Inspiration: Raegan – Princeton, WV, USA
I started making green smoothies in the fall of 2011. I heard they were great for detoxing and I wanted to increase my green vegetable intake. I also was facing high blood pressure and cholesterol and wanted to bring it down. I also wanted to lose weight.
Since drinking green smoothies, I have felt better physically and mentally. I think more clearly. My blood pressure and cholesterol have stayed down as well. My blood pressure went from around 110/70 to 140/88, which does not seem high but is a monitoring point. Once I started green smoothies and eating healthier, my blood pressure went back down and stays around 120/80.
I have been watching more of what I eat and with the help of green smoothies, I have lost about 40 pounds! I have begun doing more exercise as well as eating better.
I drink about three to four green smoothies per week. Each smoothie is a 10 ounce serving. My typical recipe is:
– 2 cups kale,
– 1 apple,
– 1 banana,
– 1 cup berries.
I try to eat more vegetables with a little meat and have lowered my carbohydrate and wheat intake. I have begun using more organic foods. I have also been experimenting with other grains beside wheat.
Since beginning green smoothies, I have gotten my parents and son into drinking them most days. My son has Asperger Syndrome and when he drinks green smoothies on a regular basis, he is able to think clearer and control his frustrations.
I have to say that since discovering green smoothies, my outlook on health has increased and made me more aware of what I eat.
Green smoothies really helped me get a great start on eating right and being healthy. In fact, they wake me up better than coffee!
