“I have started drinking green smoothies and so far, I am really enjoying them! I am close to 300 lbs and my goal is to lose 150 lbs. Would you please recommend different recipes for massive weight loss like this? Also, is it safe to replace all meals with green smoothies? Thank you for your help!” – Alexandra
Alexandra, I want to start by congratulating you on your resolve to lose weight. You’ve chosen wisely with green smoothies!
Before I get into my recommendations, I also want to remind you that I am not a doctor, so please do your own research and check with a qualified health care professional before making any drastic dietary change, especially when it comes to massive weight loss.
Massive Weight Loss With Green Smoothies
Just about every green smoothie recipe on Incredible Smoothies will facilitate weight loss. As you know, weight loss is also more than just what you eat (or don’t eat). The rest of your diet and exercise also play an important role.
I have compiled a listing of weight loss smoothie recipes. These recipes contain fruits and vegetables that research suggests helps the body maintain its ideal weight and burn fat.
The important thing to remember when making weight loss smoothies is to keep them simple. Only use tea or water as a liquid. If you want to use fruit juice, make sure to use fresh squeezed juices only. Avoid using a lot of fats such as nuts, avocados and coconuts and keep them free of dairy and artificial sweeteners.
To make smoothies creamier, use banana, apples and mangoes and to sweeten them or use a natural sweetener like dates.
While we’re on the subject of “sweets”, my experience is that the sugar content of fruits do not cause weight gain. Most people who start drinking green smoothies (including the large meal-replacement recipes on my website) start losing weight. Green smoothies contain healthy carbs and natural sugars that fuel your body. (If you are diabetic, or pre-diabetic, you may need to restrict portion sizes based on how your blood glucose responds).
Don’t Do A Smoothie-Only Diet
To answer your other question, I do not recommend going on a green smoothie-only diet. I feel that it is unnecessary and can lead to nutritional imbalances. You can read more about my stance on smoothie and juice diets here.
I recommend having a green smoothie for breakfast and/or lunch. Choose with healthy fruit and/or veggie snacks (as well as nuts) with a healthy, whole foods dinner. And start moving your body. I don’t expect you to start running 5Ks tomorrow, but start by committing to a 10 minute walk every day and go from there.
Massive Weight Loss Inspiration
And finally, I’d like to share a few massive weight loss stories that I published on my website. These are stories of 100+ pound weight loss from people who started with green smoothies. Here’s James’ 116-pound weight loss story, and Jendayi’s story, and Jeff’s 108 pounds shed in nine months.
Best of luck to you! You can do this!
